Secure hold in the Swiss gorges

Canyoning – the descent of canyons from top to bottom – is an extreme sport. Safety is the highest priority. On a canyoning route in Ticino, Switzerland, old and rusty abseiling anchors had to be replaced with new ones and securely anchored in the rock walls. For this demanding fastening task, the injection mortar FIS V Zero from fischer was the reliable choice.

A special fastening project was successfully completed by Lucian Haid, also known as “Lucki,” in September last year. The aspiring doctor and paramedic has also been working independently as a canyoning guide for canyoning tours for eleven years and has actively practiced the sport for 16 years. Under his guidance, canyoning guests hike through granite canyons with suitable equipment, climb and jump down slopes, leap into turquoise-blue natural pools, abseil down rock walls and waterfalls, or slide into plunge pools.

To anchor the hooks, Lucki first tested the rock face with a hammer to check if it was still intact. This can be determined by the sound of the hammer strike – the brighter the sound, the "healthier" the rock. He then drilled holes in the rock to install the abseiling station. Important here: thorough hole cleaning so that the mortar adheres firmly to the hole wall and the fastening achieves its full load-bearing capacity. Lucki then injected the injection mortar FIS V Zero into the drill hole using the corresponding fischer dispensing tool and screwed the hooks into it, which hold securely and permanently thanks to the mortar.
